Currently as Head of Careers in an Independent School during the term, it is my absolute privilege to work with young people as they start to plan their future and navigate the hugely varied and exciting pathways that are available to them. Once the understand that there are so many more options than just University, a lightbulb goes off and we work together to identify their unique skill set and values to find a pathway just for them.

My Careers Advisor when I left school had no idea what I should do and recommended a secretarial course and a GAP year as an interim step. That turned out to be a brilliant option as that course landed me my first job stuffing envelopes in a marketing team and fast forward post University, it was the Manager of that team who offered me my first role at BT in 2021.

One thing my Careers Advisor did say was that if I could get myself to interview stage, I would likely have success. This again stuck with me for years and I want young people to understand that quite simply they are so much more than their grades and with self-belief in who they are - all they need to do is understand how they can fit into the workplace and embrace all the curveballs their Career may throw at them along the way.
